How and Why Do Things Change?
In the 20s, things changed a lot because of the people and the technology that were present at the time. The combination of young people and new technology lead to mass communication which influenced the ideals of all other people. The change in technology also led to a mass of new opinions, which then created new changes. The 1920s were remembered because of these changes.
Statement of The 1920s
The 1920's is truly the time in which the social aspects of the past begin to collide with the modern age, or when the "old" and "new" age meet. At this time, the ideas do not mesh, but rather cause new products and also division. Different changes brought on different reactions. Such changes are derived from differences in popular culture, intolerance, alcohol laws, women's rights, and black independence. Causing less controversy was the change in popular culture, because it was advancing with technology. The technology brought on a new wave of communication which gave more opportunity to people for entertainment. Not as positive of a result from the clash was the growing intolerance for people who were different in communities. Past ideals created selfish individuals who left little room for change and idealist expansion. Not only did crime sprout off this prejudice towards others, it also came from changes in political laws such a prohibition. The reaction to prohibition combined with intolerance showed the darker byproduct of the country's changes. More positive was the increase in women's rights and also impact they had. This was much different from the past, but was very impactful. Both women and blacks progressed in society. The development of progressive ideals caused creation of a more positive society in which more opportunity was given to more people. Thus, a balance was created. There was both positives and negatives from this collision of old and new. These changes are what made that 1920s what it is remembered for today.
Connection to Today
A very important connection to the 20s was the creation of women's rights. Today, women are held equal to men. In the 20s, this had only just begun. With the more women in the work force and their chances to vote, women were finally becoming more of what they are today.
